Welcome to the Gudenå system! Guests who wish to use their boat in the Gudenå system must have a guest registration number. Guest registration numbers cost 75 DKK and are valid for 14 days.

All motordriven vessels in the Gudenå system must have a valid registration number, including guest vessels. If you do not live in one of the municipalities along the river (Randers, Viborg, Favrskov, Silkeborg, Skanderborg, Horsens or Hedensted Kommuner), but for example are on holiday in Denmark and want to use your own boat in the Gudenå system, you must have a valid guest registration number.

Please be aware that if you own a summer house or a permanent residence in one of the Gudenå municipalities above, you do not count as a guest. Then you can apply for a permanent boat number instead by clicking here (in Danish)

How do I apply?

You can quickly and simply buy a guest number on this homepage: When you have filled in the application form with the relevant information, and have accepted the terms and conditions, a payment page will appear. Here you can use most credit and debit cards to pay for your guest number. If you have any problems with your payment, please contact the webpage administrator at +45 51 44 49 43 or at makla@silkeborg.dk.

When you have paid, a pdf file will appear. This pdf file includes your guest registration number, and in addition to the number itself, includes your name and the period for which the number is valid. Print out the guest number, put it in a plastic pocket or folder and attach it to your boat as close to the bow as possible. Your guest number must be attached before your boat is launched. There must be a guest number on both sides of the boat. Be aware that the authorities carry out inspections on a regular basis of all the boats in the Gudenå system. Failure to have a number will incur a fine of 1000 DKK.

If there is a problem and you have not managed to print your guest number, you will find another copy attached to an email sent to the email address you entered in the application form. You can also contact the municipality where you expect to launch your vessel - they will be able to find the number and forward it to you again by email. You will find the contact information for all of the municipalities in the Gudenå system at the bottom of this page.

You can also purchase a guest registration number at one of our service points. Click here for names and addresses of service points (in Danish). Please be aware that some will charge a small fee for their services.
