Legislation
Current legislation must be complied with when sailing on the Gudenå River.
You are always responsible for familiarizing yourself with the legislation that applies to your type of vessel, your sailing and your whereabouts on the Gudenå River.
- "The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea" can be found in a Danish version at retsinformation.dk. The rules apply to all sailors, regardless of vessel type.
- All sailing on the Gudenå River is regulated by the Ministry of the Environment's "Executive Order on non-commercial sailing and other traffic on the Gudenå River with tributaries and lakes from Tørring to Randers".The executive order describes most of the rules laid down for non-commercial sailing on the Gudenå River, i.a. where to sail and using different types of vessels. You can read the order in Danish via this link.
- Via this link, at collection of regulations for the Gudenå River can be found on the Gudenå Committee's website. The regulations are descriptions of local rules and are the current law. The regulations for the Gudenå River describes a number of conditions (e.g. provisions on the maintenance of the watercourse, the shape of the watercourse and the ability to carry water).
Most indications of speed limits for sailing in the Gudenå system can be found in the regulations, just as the free space under bridges along the Gudenå River is specified here.
As the sailing rules specific to the Gudenå system are found in both regulations and the executive order on non-commercial sailing and other traffic on the Gudenå River with tributaries and lakes from Tørring to Randers, an easier-to-compile summary of the most important rules has been made here:
Your navigation in the Gudenå system is subject to legislation other than sailing rules.
It can e.g. be the fisheries act, the environmental legislation (discharge of wastewater from boats) and the laws about noise limits, behavior on the water regards other people ect. You can find the environmental legislation at retsinformation.dk (in Danish)
